Is HUK free?
Yes — every feature is free for everyone:the Events feed, RSVPs, hosting, Friends, Stays, Groups, messaging, photos, waves, and all privacy controls. We’ve committed to free messaging in our Terms.
The free tier has two soft caps: 5 new chats to non-friends per day and 1 active group (chats with friends and all replies are never capped). Where is HUK available?
iOS first. At launch the events feed covers the whole of the Netherlands, with more countries to follow. Android comes later.
How does the moderation work?
Primary profile photos pass a human moderation queue before becoming visible — usually approved in under 10 minutes. Reports (on profiles, events, stay posts, and group messages) are read by a human within 24 hours.
How do friends work?
Every member has an @username. Add someone by handle, or straight from their profile — at an event, in a group, on a stay post. They accept, you’re friends: it’s mutual or it’s nothing. Friends pin to the top of attendee lists, and friends chat freely — no requests, no caps, on either tier.
How private is HUK by default?
Pretty private. All we require a public profile to show is a photo, a display name (any name you like), an @username you pick, and an age band (like 25-29) — never your exact age, and never a legal name, phone number, or social-graph import. Anything beyond that — your scenes, the optional profile fields — is yours to add or skip. RSVPs start at Just me and only widen when you say so. Anyone who isn’t a friend has to knock first, with a message request you accept or decline. And blocking someone is instant: it dissolves the friendship too.
Does HUK handle money for Stays?
No. Stays is a community notice board. Hosts and travelers arrange everything between themselves in chat; HUK never processes payments or bookings and takes no commission.
