Terms of Service

These Terms are the agreement between you and huk. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Read them — they're written to be readable, not to hide things.
1. Eligibility (18+)
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use huk. By signing up, you confirm that you are 18 or older and legally able to enter into this agreement. If we discover an account belongs to a minor, we will terminate it immediately.
You also agree that your use of huk does not violate any law in your country of residence.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for the accuracy of your profile and for keeping your sign-in email under your control.
- You may not impersonate someone else, create multiple accounts to evade bans, or share access with another person.
- You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account in the app at any time, or by emailing support@hukapp.io.
3. Pricing, free tier, and HUK Unlimited
huk runs on a simple two-tier model. The commitments in this section are part of these Terms and are enforceable as such.
- Free tier — every feature available. Every feature in the app — Events (browsing, RSVPs, hosting), Stays, Groups, Friends, waves, messaging, photo sharing, privacy controls — is available at no cost to all users. The free tier has two soft usage caps: 5 new message requests per dayto people who aren’t your friends and 1 active group at a time. Replies within existing conversations are never capped.
- HUK Unlimited subscription — same app, no caps. HUK Unlimited is an optional paid subscription that (a) removes the two caps above and (b) unlocks the full, unblurred list of users who have waved at you. It does not add any feature unavailable to free users. Pricing and any free trial are shown in the app before you confirm a purchase.
What we don’t do:
- No advertising on huk.
- No boosts or pay-to-be-seen. Visibility is never for sale.
- No per-message charges. Sending or receiving a text on huk never costs you anything beyond what your own carrier or data plan independently charges.
Notice on changes to free messaging.If we ever materially change the free-messaging commitment above — including narrowing what counts as “text messaging” in a way that would put existing chat behind a paywall — we will notify you in the app at least 30 days in advance and give you a clear path to download your data and delete your account before the change takes effect.
Free trial
New subscribers may receive a 1-week free trial on their first HUK Unlimited purchase. At the end of the trial, your selected plan begins billing at the price shown in the app unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple based on your Apple ID purchase history; we do not control who qualifies.
Auto-renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions are billed through Apple and auto-renew at the end of each billing period (weekly, monthly, or yearly) at the renewal price for that period, until you cancel. To avoid the next renewal, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period.
Price changes
If we ever raise the renewal price of an active subscription, Apple will notify you in advance and require you to explicitly consent to the new pricebefore the next renewal. If you don’t consent, the subscription does not renew and your HUK Unlimited access ends at the end of the current period. Your account remains active on the free tier.
EU 14-day right of withdrawal
Under EU consumer law (Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU, art. 16(m)), you normally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services. By starting your free trial or first subscription period and accessing HUK Unlimited, you expressly consent to the immediate performance of the contract and acknowledge that you waive this 14-day right of withdrawal. Refunds outside the trial window are handled by Apple under the App Store refund policy and remain available where required by mandatory consumer law.
VAT and taxes
Prices shown in the app and on this site are inclusive of applicable VAT for users in the European Union, and of equivalent local sales taxes elsewhere where Apple collects them. Apple is responsible for collecting and remitting these taxes on App Store purchases on our behalf.
Refunds
Refunds for HUK Unlimited are processed by Apple, not by us directly. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com (opens in new tab). Apple’s refund policy is available at support.apple.com/en-us/118223 (opens in new tab).
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you post — photos, profile text, messages, event listings, stay listings, album entries (“Your Content”).
To run the Service, you grant huk a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully-paid licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, and process Your Content. The licence exists only to operate, improve, and secure the Service. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies that age out within 30 days.
You confirm that you have the rights to post Your Content and that sharing it on huk does not violate anyone else’s rights or any law.
5. Acceptable use — zero tolerance for abuse
We have a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive users. You may not post, send, or share:
- Sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises minors. This is reported to authorities.
- Threats, harassment, hate speech, slurs, doxing, stalking, or content that promotes violence against any group.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery, deepfakes, or impersonation of real people.
- Content that is illegal where you are or where the recipient is.
- Spam, scams, prostitution or sex-for-money offers, or any commercial solicitation.
- Sharing other users’ private content (photos, messages, location) without their consent.
- Malware, exploits, or attempts to break the Service.
Violations result in warnings, suspension, or permanent account termination, in our sole discretion. Severe violations are terminated on first offence with no warning.
5a. Events and Stays
Events on huk may be created by members or aggregated from the community’s own calendars. We don’t control venues, organisers, or hosts, and we are not a party to any event. Stays is a notice board: hosts and guests arrange any stay — including any payment — directly between themselves. huk does not process payments or bookings for events or stays, takes no commission, and is not a party to, or guarantor of, any arrangement between members. Verify listings and use common sense, as you would anywhere.
6. Reporting and moderation
Profiles, events, stay posts, and group messages each have a Report button. Every user has a Block button. Reports go to a human moderator.
We commit to reviewing reports of objectionable content or abusive users within 24 hours. When a report is upheld we will take action — content removal, warning, suspension, or permanent ban — proportionate to the violation. We may act on credible reports even before review where there is risk of harm.
Filing a knowingly false report is itself a violation of these Terms.
7. Termination
You can terminate at any time by deleting your account in the app or by emailing support@hukapp.io.
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or our Community Guidelines, if continued access risks harm to other users, or if we are legally required to do so. We will tell you why where it is safe and lawful to do so.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content licence (with the 30-day backup wind-down), disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, dispute resolution, and governing law — survive.
8. Warranty disclaimer (AS IS)
huk is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation. We do not promise that the Service will always be online, that messages will always be delivered, or that any other user is who they claim to be.
Use the Service at your own risk. If you meet someone through huk, use common sense — meet in a public place, tell a friend, trust your instincts.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, huk and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill arising out of or related to your use of the Service.
Our total aggregate liability arising from or related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) €50. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.
10. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless huk from claims arising out of (a) Your Content, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any law or any third-party right.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which huk is established, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. EU and UK consumers retain the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws of their home country.
We’ll try to resolve disputes by email first — write to support@hukapp.io. If that doesn’t work, EU/UK consumers may use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr (opens in new tab) or bring a claim before a competent court in their place of residence.
12. Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes we will notify you in the app and update the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept, you can delete your account.
